It was founded in 1997 as a limited company, on the initiative of Dublin City Council and with financial support from the European Commission. Our aim is to contribute to the economic, social and environmental sustainability of Dublin through good energy management, which will benefit the environment and improve the quality of life for those who live and work in the city. We have expertise and experience in the built environment for the Construction Sector and have acted as energy consultants to some of the largest housing developments in the country. As the official Local Energy Agency for Dublin, CODEMA provides services under 3 general headings: 1. CODEMA Consulting provides a professional energy consultancy service to the Public and Private sectors CODEMA has experience as an energy consultant for projects both in the Public Sector and, also, with private developers, architects & engineers and energy suppliers. We have expertise in new housing developments, refurbishment of older buildings, water conservation and education and training programmes. CODEMA will be pleased to provide further information and to discuss new projects with public bodies, developers, professionals, contractors and energy suppliers. 2. Energy agency services for promoting best practice in energy efficiency, renewable energy and clean urban transport. CODEMA was established as an initiative of Dublin City Council, with financial support from the European Commission. We continue to provide energy advice for the Council, particularly with the departments of Housing, Traffic, Engineering and Environment and Culture. The Dublin City Council's own energy supply and use, which amounts to a cost of some €8m per year, is reviewed on an annual basis and cost savings may be identified from lower supply tariffs and from a reduced energy demand. Dublin City Council is clearly committed to massive reductions of CO2 through positive interventions in various programmes, especially in housing, public lighting, transport and CHP. Reductions in energy consumption are projected up to the year 2010 and beyond, through additional measures in public buildings and Council housing stock. Overall, a saving of 80,000 tonnes of CO2 per year can be attributed directly to Dublin City Council's interventions. This is a very significant contribution towards national objectives for greenhouse gas abatement under the Kyoto protocol, as set out in the National Climate Change Strategy published by the Department of Environment and Local Government. 3. Energy advisor to Dublin City Council in housing, transport, water conservation and the environment CODEMA's is a founding member of the Association of Irish Energy Agencies, which is an all-island body committed to the development and implementation of energy policy and good practice in an impartial and effective manner at local, National and EU levels. Through the Forum of the Construction Industry in Ireland, Task Force B1 on Quality and Sustainability, CODEMA is currently contributing to formulating a model of sustainability which is appropriate to the Irish Construction Industry and making recommendations to the Forum. At European level, CODEMA is actively participating in dissemination of good practice and facilitating transnational co-operation through the European Commission’s initiative (www.managenergy.net). CODEMA is also contributing to the ‘Reflection Group’, which advises the Commission on local initiatives, partnerships and good practice that can help identify policy priorities for the EU, for example, on local initiatives concerning domestic buildings that address objectives of the Buildings Directive. |
