DUBLIN ENERGY DAY - 28th November 2005
When it comes to environmentally friendly initiatives, City of Dublin Energy Management Agency Ltd. (CODEMA) and Dublin City Council continue to be in the forefront.  The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Catherine Byrne, will unveil the first “Energy Performance Certificate” of a Dublin City public building.  This event took place on 'Energy Day', Monday 28th November, in Dublin City Council’s Civic Offices foyer. Quote from the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr. Catherine Byrne: "I am honoured to accept this award on behalf of Dublin City Council.  It is only right that Dublin City Council’s headquarters is at the forefront of energy management.  Good low energy design which the City Council is applying in new housing schemes throughout the city will ensure lower energy bills for our customers and help protect the environment without compromising comfort?”The theme of the day was energy efficiency in buildings, both residential and public buildings.  With an increase in the price of natural gas heating in Ireland of 25% on 1st October 2005 this is a very topical subject among householders and Local Authorities.  Buildings with a high energy rating use less energy, are cheaper to run and are kinder to the environment. The event commenced at 11.00am in the foyer of the Civic Offices.  The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Counsellor Catherine Byrne  officially unveiled the “Energy Performance Certificate” for the Civic Office building, followed by an introduction by the Director of CODEMA, Dr Gerry Wardell.  The city of Dublin is among the first of a small number of European cities, who was  invited by the European Commission to participate in a European ‘Energy Days’ initiative.  CODEMA organised an 'Energy Day in Dublin' on Monday 28th November as part of the Sustainable Energy Europe 2005-2008 Campaign. This work is supported by the European Commission under the ‘BUDI’ Building Directive project, involving CODEMA sharing experiences with partners in 6 other European cities.
